What Kind of Meat? - A fly fishing and mountain adventure to Bolivia

I never would have thought we'd make it to Bolivia when we did. It was a rather spontaneous decision to drop everything and invest it all into something my brother and I have dreamed about for years. Bringing a dream to reality, executing it successfully having researched only enough to do it safely, but leaving plenty of mystery to keep the adventure pure, that is our approach. We made a film that shows our passion and dedication to fly-fishing, in one of the most exotic and threatened locations on earth, the Amazon. We camped in the Cordillera Real, where snow from the 20,000' peaks feeds the great Amazon basin, and had our first experience at high altitude.  It turns out that Bolivia really is an adventurers paradise. From the mountaineering, backpacking, biking, skiing, to the fishing, it's hard to imagine anywhere else in the world where these outdoor pursuits exist on a greater scale, in such close proximity to one another. It's an incredibly fulfilling and organic experience to go from an idea to a film, something thats tangible, something that I can share with others, instead of keeping the memories locked up in my brain. Anyways, I think it's worth sharing. I hope you enjoy :)

Skiing in Bolivia: the source of the Amazon

The last week of our trip to Bolivia was spent in the capitol of La Paz and the surrounding peaks of the Cordillera Real. It was a beautiful, yet somewhat stressful experience. We were pressed for time so we felt like we couldn't fully appreciate the mountains in the way that we wanted. Our headaches lingered for most of the week as we tried to adjust to the altitude change coming from three weeks down in the lowland jungles. I'm glad we were able to get a small taste of the fascinating mountain culture and inspiring landscapes of the Bolivian Andes, and I really hope to go back one day to explore the skiing potential further. Not to mention the EPIC mountain biking.

Fly-fishing in Bolivia: Golden Dorado expedition

Ten years ago, my dream was to catch a Golden Dorado. This past summer my brother Neil and I made that dream come true in the jungles of Bolivia. Ten years for us to develop our passion and skills to the point that we felt confident enough to travel to the depths of the Amazon with the soul intention of casting a fly. It was a hell of an undertaking and we couldn't possibly have done it without the help of our Bolivian friends Patrick and Federico, as well as our sponsors and parents.

Chile: La Nieve

This is part one of a 3 part photo update from my ski trip to Chile. La Nieve (snow), is the feature of this round. Throughout one month of skiing, sometimes the snow was plentiful, other times scarce and downright shitty. Valle Nevado was having one of its worst years, with only 50% of normal snowpack. Compare that to places in southern Chile like Termas De Chillan which had heaps of snow, as apparent in the photograph below. It was excellent to finally have the opportunity to travel to South America and see first hand the potential of the mighty Andes mountains.

postcard home....

Im 4 weeks into a 6 week trip to south America. I've seen many amazing places and experienced lots of great culture. I have lots of great photographs and videos as well as stories to tell, but I'll have to wait till I return home to share those. Time is of the essence. I wanted to send home a postcard that I made. These are but a few of the most amazing sunsets I have ever seen.....

Next week I will be heading on a solo fly-fishing trip to hunt for massive golden dorado in the "yungas" of northern Argentina. Stay tuned for what will surely be an epic.

Evolve Chile

Skiing in South America has been on my list of things to do for quite some time now. Im so stoked that this summer will give me the opportunity to make that happen. Chile and Argentina encompass almost the entire Andes mountain range, the longest mountain range in the world. As a skier from north America, these destinations provoke images of deep powder skiing in the summer months, something I have yet to experience. But it's also the culture of the region that makes Chile and Argentina such a desirable ski destination. I'm really looking forward to brushing up on my spanish skills, while skiing big mountain descents in the Andes range.

I'll be in Chile for about a month, working with the Evolve Chile freeride camp. Im really grateful that they've given me the opportunity to come down and help out. It should be a really good time! Their setup for the camp is SICK! check out the website for more info:
